DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

BRIDGE May 4, 2016 for the meeting of May 11

President Eileen reviewed Fred’s action list of duties that need to be done for Trivia Night, May 21.  The set up will start at 4:00 PM with doors open at 7:00 PM and the start of the game at 7:30 P M.  Tables of 10 cost $200.00 and individual tickets are $20.00.  There will be 14 playing tables.  Fred’s complete list was included in the Bridge of April 27.  Bruce Schulman has made up and handed out distinctive posters to advertise the night.  He also made up packets to give to various groups, such as the Legionnaires, Police, Fire, and the Senior Center, to collect names of participants and their donations.  So far the Lions Club has signed up for a table.  The 50/50 raffle will be entirely handled by the Legion including the funds collected.  There will be 25 questions with a break after every five questions for drinks and food.  The logos of the Rotary Club, Legion and Habitat for Humanity during the break will be projected on the screens.  Peter Dewey has agreed to prepare the food and he will supply the heated trays for serving.  Bruce S. was thanked for his efforts in organizing the fund arrangements, the posters, a Google voice mail account with texting and Gmail account with group email.

A reminder to members to contact the vendors for their placemat ads.  Bob and Steve were thanked for their efforts to contact donors.

Bruce passed on the information that it is time to sign up for a July 4 parade float, a good way to advertise Rotary and the charitable causes that we support.  The club decided to support the float.

George is working with the high school on the scholarships.  There are two, the  $2,000.00 Ted Leonard and the $1,000.00 Rotary.  Each applicant is to write an essay on how his or her last four years in high school would fit the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” (secret).

MEMBERSHIP: A card was signed to wish Jack a Happy Birthday.  It was good to have Abdul with us for the meeting.  Steve will make a thank you presentation to Abdul at the next meeting to thank him for designing a life saving lift to allow a handicapped young man to get from floor to floor and outdoors from a split level home.  It added considerably to the man’s quality of life, and to his family.

SCHEDULE: Meeting May 11.
May 21, Trivia Night
July 4, The parade float
August 20, Duck Race

FINES/RAFFLE: Steve acted as the Sgt.-at-Arms.  Bob is making a trip to Nashville.  Fred has had the roots of removed trees in his front yard dug up and Steve has installed a new lawn, hopefully not washed away with all of the rain.  May birthdays include Abdul’s two sons and two daughters, Eileen’s two sons and Fred’s Derby.  Despite Steve’s reluctance to collect, he raised $33.00.  Steve won $10.00 in the raffle.
