DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB
BRIDGE, Wednesday, August 9, 2017 for the meeting of Aug. 16

President Fred reviewed recent correspondence. Joyce and Richard Lebeau thanked for a gift from the club to help with expenses caused by a motorcycle accident.

Fred discovered that Taunton’s My Brother’s Keeper has a branch in Duxbury helping local citizens.

Bob J. reports that our contribution to help with senior bus rides is much appreciated by the riders as well as Joanne Moore, Director of the Senior Center.

South Shore Habitat thanked the club for our contribution.

South Shore Community Action Council has a new President.

Cheryl will look into having the Sheriff’s Department speak about scamming.  The seniors might be invited.

Jim Middleton of South Shore Habitat will be invited to speak about the construction of  Vets housing in Plymouth.  Arrangements need to be made between the various groups involved to make presentations at our meetings.

The Placemat fundraiser will begin after school starts in Sept.

George spoke about membership and how vital it is to keep new members joining to replace those who leave.  He suggests that all members, this year, be responsible to “invite” (secret word) one person who is qualified to be a Rotarian, to be a guest at a meeting.  Fred handed out cards that we could give to someone that we think would be a possible member.

Steve is looking for interesting programming for meetings.  He reviewed suggestions that Bruce R. proposed some time back.  Members are asked for their own ideas.

Bob J. has followed up on his idea on ways of getting the word out about Rotary to the community.  He visited PAC TV and met Donna Rodrigues who is more than willing to help.  She is enthusiastic about doing a program on our efforts to build housing for Veterans.  They have a Community Bulletin Board and are willing to post our events.

SCHEDULE: LOBSTER NIGHT Aug. 16, starting at 5:30 PM at the Lobster Hut at  131 Beech St, Marshfield.  It is suggested to bring bug spray.  Notify Fred if you would like boiled lobster.  To prepare for our visit, the restaurant needs to know how many lobsters to boil.  Also available are lobster rolls.

Steve Certa, from the District, has contacted us about the Aug. 22, Rotary District Night at the Paw Sox baseball game.  Those who have gone in the past have enjoyed it.

The Senior Center would like the club to sponsor a hole for their Golf Tournament on Sept. 25.  They also could use sport tickets to raffle.

Sept. 29, the Lions Club has invited members to attend their October Fest to raise funds for Homes for Vets.

Fred rechecked the date of the District Governor’s yearly visit and it is November 29.

FINES/RAFFLE:  Bob H. fined for a group of August birthdays, Michelle, George,  Cheryl, Bruce’s wife and Karl’s grandson.  Fred and his wife served a meal at Father Bill’s and were much affected by the difficulty that the attendees were faced with.  Bruce attended a wedding in Edinburgh Scotland.
