DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB
Wednesday, September 27, 2017 for the meeting of Oct. 4

Hurricane/disaster relief: President Fred would like to direct relief funds from Duxbury Rotary to a doable project where the Club funds would “Make a Difference” (secret phrase) where we can see the results.  We can contribute to one of the large charitable organizations, but it would be more satisfying to pick a small town, for example in Puerto Rico, and provide them with a means to acquire clean water.  He feels that we would more closely identify with the project, as it would be more personal.  Fred asked Shawn, who professionally specialized in providing clean water, to research this effort.  Steve will speak to housing specialists to see how the club could help with housing of refugees.

FUN EVENTS: Despite the storm canceled Beach Picnic, Steve is planning more events,
Oct. - A Walk in the Woods with Joe Grady.
Nov. – Bowling
Jan. – A visit to the Bradford House.
Feb. – Visit the Mayflower Brewery.

PLACEMAT ADS: Steve emailed our members the lists of last year’s donors and the members responsible to collect the donations.  Bob J. will take a picture of seniors at a meal using our placemats.  This will be included in the letter sent to possible donors requesting support.  Two letters will be sent.  The initial request, then a follow-up letter if no response to the first letter.  A personal visit will then follow.  Steve and Cheryl will update the letters.  Cheryl has prepared forms to record the Rotarian who contacts the businesses and if the business is committed to give, interested or not interested.  She has also prepared a list to record actual receipts of donations.  Fred will be converting the master list so that it can be sorted alphabetically and make mail merge possible.  Volunteers will be needed to fold donation letters, put them in envelops, and put on postage.  Fred will sign the letters, or a member will sign for him, as there are over sixty.  It is important to tell Fred whom you will contact for contributions so there will not be any duplication of solicitations.  Feel free to ask businesses that you deal with, even though they are not listed on the master list.

SCHEDULE: The Lyons Club October Fest will be held on Friday, September 29.  Marie Van Slyck, a member of the Lyons Club can be contacted at mvanslyck@Jackconway.com for Tickets, which are $35.00 per person or $65.00 per couple.  Drinks are from 6:30-7:30 PM followed by dinner at 7:30 PM.
Oct. 4, next regular meeting.

MEMEBERSHIP; Fred reports that George is doing much better.  Abdul is still having a hard time.

FINES/RAFFLE: Bob J. acted as the Sgt.-at-Arms.  Michelle’s father has just been recognized for his many years, since 1960, broadcasting his school’s football games.  Steve’s wife is feeling much better.  Fred’s dog Trooper is also better.  Michelle’s co-worker’s daughter has a serious attack of lime’s disease, which was at first misdiagnosed.  Michelle won the raffle and won $5.00.
