DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

Wednesday, July 26, 2017 for the meeting of August 9

Shawn Moniri, was inducted as our newest member by Bob H.  He was sponsored by President Fred and has the classification of Chemical Engineer.  Shawn grew up in Iran.  In 1968, because it was very hard to get into an Iranian college, he applied and was accepted to Texas A&M after spending a year learning English.  He became a chemical engineer and worked on oilrigs in Iran.  When the political situation became very dangerous, he left Iran for the US with his wife and twin children.  After working for Osmotics for several years he started his own company called CED Corporation.  Now he is semi retired with one of his sons continuing and growing the company.  He spends part of the year in Duxbury where he has lived for 30 years and part of the year in Florida.

Fred has spoken with Jim Middleton about the Plymouth Habitat For Humanity housing for veterans.  Jim has offered to speak to the club about their progress in Plymouth, where they are clearing the land and building a road.  The Legion and the Lions Club will join Duxbury in helping to build the house in Plymouth.  A “sign up sheet” (secret) was passed around to help with the building and contribute $100.00 to do so.

Doug has mastered ClubRunner and updated the Duxbury Club home page.

Duck revenue grossed $5,600.00 and netted $4,600.00 - $4,700.00.

Bob J. reported that the Senior Center will now charge for transportation and asked if Rotary would help to subsidize the costs.  There are some who cannot afford the fee.  It was voted to contribute $100.00, this year, to provide 200 rides.

SCHEDULE: Aug. 2, no meeting
Aug. 9, regular meeting.
Aug. 16, Lobster Night.
