DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB

BRIDGE July 12, 2017 for the meeting July 26

Duxbury Rotary hosted the two High School scholarship winners and member of their families.  Many members brought their significant others and their families.  Several of the donors of gifts in memory of Preston Richmond were present.  Over 30 were in attendance.

President Fred reviewed the history of Rotary, especially the great effort to eradicate polio.  He also spoke about our club’s efforts to help Razia with her dream of creating a girl’s school in her home country of Afghanistan.  Now our club’s drive, with the help of the Duxbury Lions, the American Legion and Habitat For Humanity, will be building homes in Duxbury for returning veterans.  We have already given funds to build two homes in Plymouth.

The first student honored was Emily Murray who received the Ted Leonard Scholarship.  She has done work to benefit those in need at the High School and in the area.  She is headed to the University of Scranton as a pre-med student.  George presented Emily her award.

The second to be honored was Carolyn Brandeis who received the Preston Richmond Scholarship.  She also has a long list of worthy causes that she has donated her time to.  She will be majoring in marketing and public health care at Boston University.  Christina Richmond, Preston’s wife was able to attend to present Carolyn her award.

SCHEDULE: July 19, Director’s Meeting at Fred’s home at 5:30 PM “open to all members” (secret).
