DUXBURY ROTARY CLUB
Bridge June 6, 2018 for the meeting of June 26

The Guest Speaker was Jim Middleton, Executive Director of the Greater Plymouth Habitat for Humanity. The club is eager to help with construction of Veteran’s housing and Jim made suggestions on how to do that. Anyone handy with a chain saw is welcome for the coming month as are people who would like to pile brush. Construction of the homes will be started in July.  On Saturday, June 23 we, along with the Legion and Lyons club, are invited to see the site starting at 9:30 AM.  The location to meet transportation to site is the Wildlands Trust headquarters at 675 Long Pond Road, Plymouth.  On this site visit we will be able to see where the construction of three affordable three-bedroom homes designed for Veterans are being built.  Workdays to start framing the homes will be planned at a later date.  The motto of Habitat is to “Provide a hand up, not a hand out”.

Erin and the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society will be helping us at the Duck Race providing games that kids used to play and a display of a cutout figure of Charlotte Bradford a nurse in the Civil War and who lived in the Bradford house on Tremont St.

Cheryl reports that $2,026.00 has been raised so far in duck sales.

Be sure to answer a Survey Monkey questionnaire in your email prepared by Karl Kunz and Bill Babcock. This is designed to see how we can change the club for the better and make it more attractive to join, particularly for younger folk.  President Fred’s quote, “Don’t not just sit, get things done”.
